How we protect your pet from preventable and life-altering diseases
There are numerous threats to the health and happiness of your treasured pet. But do not be concerned! You have a trusted partner in the Lakewood, California area to fight these potential threats and to keep your pet their tail wagging and frisky best! As an American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited clinic, Bloomfield Animal Hospital maintains the highest quality and safety standards. Our veterinarians and team also emphasize preventive pet care in all that we do. With ongoing and tailored care that is personalized to your pet’s unique needs and risk factors, we can minimize, avoid, and delay the need for treatments and interventions such as the surgical management of progressive disease.
How do you keep my pet healthy?
Your pet is unique. Our preventative services are tailored to those unique and personal characteristics and needs. Additionally, just as your health can evolve over time, so does your pet’s health evolve with time. So, our services to protect your dog or cat keep pace with their changing needs. We account for the following factors when determining your pet’s needs at every stage in their life. An understanding of these needs then informs our specific recommendations to keep your pet healthy and/or to reduce any potential risks to their health.
- Environment/surroundings
- Exposures in the community
- Habits
- Behaviors
- Nutrition
We also account for personal characteristics such as your pet’s current age. What may have been recommended for your pet as a puppy or kitten may not be appropriate or helpful as a more mature or senior pet.
What are some services that are appropriate for all pets?
All pets, regardless of their age or unique needs and risks for disease, can benefit from regular wellness visits. During these visits, we will perform a full nose-to-tail examination. We also track and monitor for any changes that have occurred since your pet’s last wellness visit. As needed, we may run bloodwork and perform other diagnostic/testing services to rule out diseases and better understand what might account for any changes you have noticed or those noted during the exam. Other services that are essential to maintain the health and happiness of your beloved pet include:
- Supporting a vaccine schedule that is right for your pet (both core and non-core vaccines as appropriate)
- Protecting against fleas, ticks, and other “creepy crawlies” with topical and preventive products
- Preventing and minimizing potentially dangerous internal/intestinal parasites
- Testing for heartworm
- Managing heartworm to protect against this deadly infection
- Dental care
- Guidance on grooming products, supplements, quality pet foods, and more
How often does my pet need to visit you?
Again, recommendations are based on your dog’s/cat’s unique needs and characteristics. It is generally advised that healthy dogs and cats visit the veterinarian once a year for their comprehensive exams. However, if your pet has certain risk factors, existing health conditions, or is a senior, then Bloomfield Animal Hospital will likely recommend more frequent wellness exams. These exams may be scheduled a few times each year instead of annually. Routine exams both prevent conditions and also identify them before they cause great harm to your pet.
The big question is, “Why treat when you can prevent?” There are so many ways to control your pet’s potential exposures to threats to their health. Your pet (and household) does not have to unnecessarily go through the pain and distress of preventable and life-altering conditions. If your dog or cat is overdue for a wellness exam or you have questions about your pet’s health, contact us today. Our hospital in Lakewood, CA can be reached at (562) 383-7788.
